An international FMCG business is seeking a Corporate Lawyer to join its in-house legal team in Manchester. This role offers broad exposure across corporate, commercial and strategic matters, working closely with senior stakeholders and supporting the business through ongoing growth, transformation and M&A activity. The position would suit a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys operating as a trusted adviser within a fast-paced, consumer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising on a wide range of corporate matters, including M&A (buy-side and sell-side), disposals, joint ventures, restructurings and group reorganisations.
  • Supporting on corporate governance matters, including board and committee processes, shareholder issues and statutory compliance.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating transactional documentation, including SPAs, asset purchase agreements, shareholders’ agreements and ancillary documents.
  • Working alongside external counsel to manage transactions efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Providing pragmatic legal advice to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, including finance, strategy and commercial teams.
  • Assisting with wider commercial legal matters as required, including strategic projects and business initiatives.
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments relevant to the FMCG sector and advising on risk and compliance.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  • Strong background in corporate law, gained either in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
  • Experience advising on M&A and complex corporate transactions.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to translate legal risk into practical business advice.
  • Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating closely with a wider legal and business team.
  • FMCG, consumer, manufacturing or international business exposure is advantageous but not essential.
