Heriot Brown is working with a major international construction and development business on the appointment of a Project Lawyer to support the delivery of a significant c.£500m infrastructure project in Jersey.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced construction lawyer to become embedded within a major live project, working closely with the project, commercial and operational teams throughout the delivery phase.

The role will combine both non-contentious and contentious construction work, with a strong focus on day-to-day project support.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Drafting and negotiating construction subcontracts.




• Reviewing and negotiating collateral warranties and associated project documentation.




• Advising project and commercial teams on contractual risk.




• Supporting claims, disputes and other contentious matters arising during delivery.




• Advising on contractual notices, project correspondence and ongoing obligations.




• Working closely with senior project stakeholders and external advisers.




• Providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice within a fast-moving project environment.

The successful candidate is likely to have:

• Around 5+ years' PQE, although relevant experience will be more important than strict PQE.




• Strong construction law experience.




• Experience across both contentious and non-contentious matters.




• Confidence drafting and negotiating construction contracts and project documentation.




• The ability to operate autonomously and work directly with non-legal stakeholders.




• Experience on a major construction, infrastructure or engineering project would be particularly attractive.

French language capability would be advantageous, but is not essential.

The role will be predominantly site-based in Jersey for the duration of the project. Accommodation will be provided and support is available around relocation and relevant immigration requirements.

A four-year fixed-term contract is the preferred structure, although a permanent appointment may also be considered. The business is also open to candidates seeking a reduced working pattern of approximately 60% or above.
