The Company
We are working with a growing specialist consultancy that supports major UK and international businesses with complex strategic and operational projects. The organisation is an established SME with a collaborative permanent team and a wider network of specialist consultants who are engaged depending on client and project requirements. As the business continues to grow, it is looking to strengthen its internal contracts capability by appointing an experienced Contracts Paralegal.
The Role
This is a broad and operational position with responsibility for managing the business’s day-to-day contracts process. The role will involve reviewing and amending standard commercial agreements, supporting straightforward drafting, managing templates and ensuring contracts continue to progress efficiently through the review and approval process. You will work closely with senior operational and commercial stakeholders across the business and regularly liaise with the procurement and legal teams of large corporate clients. The position will report to a senior operations leader rather than a lawyer. More complex legal issues can be escalated to an experienced senior lawyer or external legal counsel.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing and amending standard commercial contracts
- Supporting the drafting of straightforward contractual documents
- Managing contract templates, precedents and associated documentation
- Coordinating contracts through the review and approval process
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and external procurement teams
- Tracking contract deadlines, renewals and outstanding actions
- Supporting basic compliance and governance requirements
- Identifying potential contractual risks and escalating complex legal issues
- Maintaining accurate contract records and documentation
- Helping to improve and standardise internal contract processes
- Ensuring contracts continue to move forward efficiently
About You
The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced career paralegal, contracts paralegal or contracts professional with strong commercial contracts experience. You will be highly organised, commercially minded and comfortable taking ownership of a contracts process within an SME environment. You will ideally have:
- Experience reviewing and amending commercial contracts
- Strong contract management and organisational skills
- Experience using and maintaining contractual templates and precedents
- The confidence to liaise with senior internal stakeholders and external clients
- Strong attention to detail
- A practical and commercially focused approach
- The ability to manage multiple contracts and competing priorities
- Sound judgement around when legal issues should be escalated
- Experience within consultancy, professional services or a similar corporate environment would be beneficial
The role could particularly suit an experienced career paralegal who is not seeking to qualify as a solicitor but wants to take genuine ownership of a business’s contracts function.
What’s on Offer
- Salary of £60,000–£70,000
- A permanent role within a growing specialist consultancy
- Broad ownership of the day-to-day contracts process
- Regular exposure to senior stakeholders and major corporate clients
- The opportunity to improve and develop internal contracting processes
- Hybrid working, with 2–3 days per week in the Surrey office
