A high-growth infrastructure business operating at the forefront of the energy transition is looking to appoint a Head of Legal to support its next phase of scale. This is a rare opportunity to step into a broad, leadership role within a well-funded, purpose-led organisation delivering critical national infrastructure across the UK.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Legal Director, you will take ownership of a growing legal team and play a central role in shaping the legal, regulatory and compliance framework of the business. You’ll operate at the heart of a fast-scaling environment, working closely with senior stakeholders across commercial, operations and delivery functions to enable growth while managing risk. This role combines team leadership, complex contracting, infrastructure rollout and strategic input at senior level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Lead, develop and mentor a team of lawyers (including senior legal counsel level)
    • Support the Legal Director in shaping legal strategy and embedding best practice across the business
    • Deputise at senior leadership and board level where required
  • Commercial & Infrastructure Delivery
    • Oversee a high-volume pipeline of public and private sector transactions across the UK
    • Lead on complex commercial agreements, including:
      • Infrastructure rollout and construction contracts
      • Supplier and outsourcing arrangements
      • Technology and energy-related agreements
    • Drive efficiencies in contracting processes, including templates, playbooks and negotiation strategies
  • Property & Network Development
    • Oversee acquisition of land/property interests (leases, licences, concessions, framework agreements etc.)
    • Manage legal aspects of large-scale network deployment programmes
  • Regulatory & Compliance
    • Lead on regulatory compliance and evolving industry requirements
    • Oversee key certifications, insurance programmes and corporate policies
    • Monitor legislative and market developments within a rapidly evolving sector
  • Operational Excellence
    • Manage legal budget and external counsel relationships
    • Implement legal tech and contract management solutions
    • Embed scalable legal processes to support continued growth

About You

  • England & Wales qualified solicitor with ~10+ years’ PQE
  • Strong in-house experience within a fast-paced or scaling environment
  • Proven background in commercial contracts and infrastructure or asset-heavy sectors (e.g. energy, telecoms, transport, utilities, real estate)
  • Experience advising on property matters (leases, licences, land rights)
  • Track record of leading and developing teams
  • Comfortable operating in a scale-up environment with evolving priorities
  • Commercial, pragmatic and able to balance risk with delivery
