West Midlands | 3 days per week | Interim contract
£400+ per day
A well-established consumer services business is looking for an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team on an interim basis.
The successful lawyer will provide hands-on support to a small legal team during a period of transition and will take ownership of an existing commercial caseload.
The role will focus predominantly on commercial contracts, with technology agreements forming an important part of the workload.
The role
You will work closely with the Head of Legal and wider business stakeholders across a range of commercial matters.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts
- Advising on technology, supplier and services agreements
- Managing your own caseload and progressing matters independently
- Providing clear and commercially focused advice to stakeholders
- Supporting the legal team during a period of wider business change
- Taking over existing matters and getting up to speed quickly
There may also be some exposure to matters relating to business restructuring, closures, disputes or insolvency-related queries, although previous experience in these areas is not essential.

- Strong commercial contracts experience
- Good technology contracts experience
- Previous in-house experience
- The ability to work autonomously within a small legal team
- A practical and commercially focused approach
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- The ability to get up to speed quickly and take ownership of work
- A friendly, collaborative and low-ego working style
This is a hands-on legal role rather than a strategic leadership position, so the successful lawyer must be comfortable remaining close to the detail and managing day-to-day legal work.
Previous interim or contracting experience would be particularly useful.
Working pattern
The role will initially be three days per week, with 2-3 days attendance required in the West Midlands for the first two weeks.
There will be a greater degree of flexibility once the successful lawyer is established within the team - e.g. 1 day per week.
Timing
The preferred start date is late September 2026, with availability to start quickly particularly advantageous.
