Working closely with Progress Coaches, Learning Support staff, Job Coaches, parents, carers and external agencies, you will ensure learners receive the support they need to succeed.

About Life Skills English and Maths

Life Skills English and Life Skills Maths are unique programmes developed at Hereward College to help learners apply the skills gained in their core English and Maths lessons to real-life situations.

Rather than focusing on traditional academic content, these lessons explore practical topics linked to independence, employability and preparation for adulthood. Learners engage with themes such as:

  • Communication and relationships
  • Employability and interview skills
  • Online safety and digital citizenship
  • Managing money and budgeting
  • Travel and independence
  • Wellbeing and community participation

Through discussion, problem-solving and real-world application, learners build confidence and develop the skills needed for life beyond college.

Whilst the timetable reflects the current needs of the department, teaching responsibilities within the Pathway team regularly evolve. As teachers develop their interests, experience and specialisms, there are often opportunities to contribute to other curriculum areas that align with their strengths and professional aspirations.
