Job Description
The hours will vary each week, but will be an average of 26 hours per week on a rota basis. This is a sleep-in role, but the individual must be prepared to wake and respond immediately if an emergency occurs. Accommodation is provided for the duration of the shift. Any necessary training will be provided to ensure the individual is prepared for the emergency response duties.
Responsibilities and accountabilities – General

- Support learners to improve their maths and English skills through everyday experiences.
Responsibilities and accountabilities – Detailed
- Assist residential staff in implementing emergency evacuation procedures in a calm and methodical manner.
- Support learners, particularly those with additional needs, in safely exiting the premises.
- Follow all fire safety and emergency protocols as instructed by senior staff.
- Liaise with emergency services upon arrival to provide necessary information.
- Conduct post-incident support and documentation if required.
- Remain on-site and available throughout the shift for immediate response if needed.
- Assist in supporting minor incidents or disturbances if they arise, this may include, but is not exhaustive to:
- A learner needing to go to hospital during the night;
- A night staff member going home during shift due to illness or emergency;
- Work collaboratively with residential staff to ensure a smooth emergency response.
- Maintain awareness of any learners who may require additional assistance in case of an emergency.
- Report any concerns or incidents to the Team Leader.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including fire safety procedures.
- Participate in emergency response training sessions as required.
- Stay informed on Hereward College’s policies regarding learner care and emergency protocols.
