Working as part of the Worcestershire LEP’s executive team, the WGH Account Manager (Geographic) role is responsible for providing professional, high quality account management support to businesses (5+ FTE) across a two-District geography within Worcestershire. The role engages with local businesses to understand their growth plans, opportunities and challenges, and then provides information, advice and guidance including referrals into relevant business support offers, locally and nationally.
Responsibilities
- Develop, prepare and implement a business engagement delivery plan for the specific locality linked to the WLEP Plan for Growth and the overarching Growth Hub Business engagement plan.
- Research, identify and engage SMEs and key accounts (businesses with 5 employees and more) in the allocated locality – ensuring a portfolio of account managed businesses, new leads, potential high-growth, and FDI businesses.
- Engage with senior contacts at identified businesses and provide high-level account management support, working with the business to navigate and access business support in form of local, regional and national programmes.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date understanding of local, regional and national business support offers.
- Signpost and refer businesses on either sector specific issues or general business issues, supporting their journey – easing the navigation of the local business support landscape.
- Ensure accurate records of engagement activity are regularly recorded on CRM (Evolutive) with all company data completed in a timely manner and at least two years of financial and workforce history recorded.
- Support the preparation of regular locality reports for stakeholders including funding partners, detailing key business visits and summary of activity.
- Identify and provide businesses for case studies on a regular basis.
- Collaborate, co‑coordinate and work in co‑operation with the wider Growth Hub Team.
- Maintain key stakeholder relationships with local, regional and national stakeholders including DBT, Local Authorities, Universities, Innovate UK, locally funded Business Support Programmes and various other intermediary organisations.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent expert experience in developing and delivering account management relationships.
- Strong commercial skills with significant experience working with or for private sector businesses.
- In‑depth understanding of standard business functions including sales & marketing, international trade, finance, PR, human resources and strategic business planning.
- Strong understanding of the range of issues facing businesses, including local, regional and national policy.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to engage with and communicate effectively with senior business leaders.
- Expert understanding of key partners and business support organisations and programmes available to businesses, including government/public sector funding.
- Results‑driven with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent relationship management and customer satisfaction skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team, including the ability to positively influence others.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office systems.
Mobility
- Ideally a car owner with full driving licence.
- Willing and able to travel to different locations around the county, occasionally further afield.
- Willing and able to work some unsocial hours such as early mornings or evenings as required to meet the needs of the service and customers.
