We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Part-Time Caretaker to play a vital role in the smooth daily running of The Gateway. This role focuses on opening up the building each morning, ensuring the premises are safe, secure, clean, and ready for staff, learners, and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include unlocking the site, carrying out routine checks, undertaking minor repairs, basic site and grounds upkeep, and supporting our compliance and health & safety standards. A flexible, hands-on approach is essential to handle day-to-day tasks effectively within a short time window. Occasional additional hours may be requested by mutual agreement, for example to support evening events or cover site security.

Key Duties- Unlocking the Centre and ensuring site security and safety each morning.
- Carrying out daily checks and minor repairs (e.g., replacing light bulbs, basic plumbing, tidying hazards).
- Supporting planned maintenance tasks and reporting any defects.
- Keeping communal areas tidy, litter picking, emptying bins, topping up soap and sanitiser as required.
- Assisting staff and customers with basic Estates tasks as needed.
- Monitoring cleaning standards and reporting any issues.
- Completing routine compliance checks (e.g., weekly fire alarm tests, emergency lighting, water systems) and supporting the Estates team with other checks as required.
- Practical skills in basic maintenance and repairs.
- Understanding of basic health and safety requirements.
- Able to work independently and use initiative to prioritise tasks.
- Friendly, approachable, and good at communicating with colleagues and the public.
- Pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
