We’re looking for two new members of staff to join the Environmental Health Team and work within the specialist regulatory service areas of Private Sector Housing or Food Safety. In this role you will conduct inspections, provide advice, gather evidence to support enforcement actions and contribute to health and safety enforcement work.
What will you be doing?
- Private Sector Housing – Technical Officer
- Deliver housing risk rating (HHSRS) inspections, complaint investigations and property condition checks.
- Advise landlords and tenants and conduct HMO licensing activity.
- Provide enforcement action on illegal evictions, ASB/nuisance cases and health and safety incidents including reactive investigations, workplace inspections and RIDDOR responses.
- Food Safety – Technical Officer
- Deliver the commercial food business inspection programme and food hygiene rating scores.
- Investigate complaints, advise and inspect new food businesses, conduct public health investigations and sampling.
- Assist with licence checks, festival site visits and health and safety assistance in commercial premises.
- Work with colleagues and partner agencies, providing advice, carrying out inspections, gathering information and evidence to support enforcement actions.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
About You
You’re enthusiastic, customer‑focused, and a confident communicator who can work independently and as part of a team. You possess strong organisational skills, can manage competing priorities and have customer service experience.
Job Requirements
- Willingness to undertake and complete relevant professional development and statutory training, including GCSEs/A-Levels or equivalent for entry level, up to Level 6 or substantive experience for higher grades.
- Understanding of enforcement skills guided by legislation, regulation, codes and good practice, particularly within environmental health.
- Ability to travel across Herefordshire.
- Customer service and communication skills to liaise with residents, businesses and colleagues.
