About the Role
Herefords Employment Solicitors is a growing specialist employment law practice advising employees, senior executives and employers across the full range of UK employment law.
As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Employment Solicitor with a minimum of 3 years' PQE to join the firm.
We are looking for someone who is technically strong, pragmatic and capable of independently managing their own caseload with minimal supervision. The caseload will be predominantly employee/claimant work, together with employer/respondent matters.
The position is preferably full-time, five days per week. It can be undertaken fully remotely from anywhere in the UK, from our central London office, or on a hybrid basis. We may consider four days per week for an exceptional candidate.
The Work
The successful candidate will handle a varied employment law caseload including:
- Settlement agreements and negotiated exits;
- unfair dismissal;
- discrimination and whistleblowing;
- grievances, disciplinary and capability/performance matters;
- redundancy and restructuring;
- ACAS Early Conciliation and settlement negotiations;
- Employment Tribunal claims for claimants and respondents;
- drafting ET1s, ET3s, schedules of loss, witness statements and other Tribunal documents;
- disclosure and hearing preparation; and
- general employment law advice to employees and employers.
You will be expected to take ownership of matters from initial instruction through to resolution and provide clients with clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' PQE as a solicitor in England & Wales;
- substantial practical experience in UK employment law;
- experience independently managing Employment Tribunal litigation;
- strong employee/claimant experience;
- experience advising on and negotiating settlement agreements;
- good knowledge of unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing;
- strong drafting and negotiation skills;
- excellent client-care and communication skills;
- ability to assess merits, quantum and litigation risk;
- excellent organisation and deadline management; and
- ability to work autonomously without requiring close day-to-day supervision.
Desirable
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Acting for both claimants and respondents;
- Employment Tribunal advocacy, particularly preliminary and case-management hearings;
- conducting cases through to final hearing;
- complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims;
- senior executive exits;
- employer advisory work;
- redundancy/restructuring exercises;
- no-win-no-fee/conditional fee claimant work;
- supervising junior lawyers or paralegals; and
- business development and developing client relationships.
The Person
We are particularly interested in someone who combines strong technical knowledge with common sense and commercial judgement.
You should be confident dealing directly with clients, comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility for your files, and able to recognise when a particularly complex or high-risk issue genuinely requires escalation.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience;
- fully remote working available;
- option to work from our central London office or on a hybrid basis;
- high-quality specialist employment law work;
- genuine autonomy and responsibility for your own caseload;
- claimant and respondent work;
- opportunities to undertake your own Tribunal advocacy;
- strong administrative and compliance support, allowing you to concentrate primarily on clients and legal work;
- a friendly and flexible working environment; and
- genuine opportunity to develop into a more senior role as the firm continues to grow.
Full-time, five days per week is preferred, although four days per week may be considered for an exceptional candidate on a pro-rata basis.
Application
Please apply with your CV together with a short covering note confirming:
- your current role and PQE;
- your employment law and Employment Tribunal experience;
- your current salary/salary expectations;
