Job Purpose

The Installation Engineer will perform skilled work on gas, oil and renewable heating systems, focusing on installations. The role requires a strong understanding of plumbing systems, coordination with heating systems, and the ability to liaise with manufacturers to support technical requirements for boilers and renewable technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install domestic gas and renewable heating systems in line with current regulations and industry standards.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective remedial works.
  • Communicate with key manufacturers to obtain technical support for boilers and renewable heating systems.
  • Work with plumbing systems in coordination with heating installations.
  • Complete works in occupied residential and commercial properties with minimal disruption.
  • Participate in an on-call rota for emergency out-of-hours cover (paid x1.5 hourly rate).
  • Manage van stock levels in line with daily usage and company procedures.
  • Work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Remain up to date with changes to legislation, standards, and heating technology.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must hold the following current gas qualifications as a minimum:

  • CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety
  • CENWAT – Domestic Natural Gas Boilers & Water Heaters
  • CKR1 – Domestic Cookers
  • HTR1 – Domestic Gas Fires
  • CPA1 - Combustion Performance Analysis

Oil (Desirable but not essential)

Applicants with oil experience should hold the following current OFTEC qualifications:

  • OFTEC 101 – Domestic Oil-Fired Appliances
  • OFTEC 105 – Domestic Oil Storage

Renewables (Desirable but not essential)

Experience and/or qualifications in renewable technologies such as air source and ground source heat pumps. Manufacturer-specific training or MCS-related qualifications are desirable.

General Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in heating installation, servicing, and maintenance.
  • Experience working in occupied residential and/or commercial properties.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with good practical skills.
  • Able to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid full clean UK driving licence.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and work locations.
  • Good manual dexterity with the ability to occasionally work at height and in confined spaces (full training provided).
