Are you a machine learning or mathematical researcher with an interest in Network science who wants to solve difficult problems? Are you wanting to see the outcomes of your work benefit customers directly? Do you want to make your mark on a novel product? If yes, you might be our person.

Herdify is a growing B2B SaaS company with big consumer-brand ambitions. We deliver behavioural science to consumer brands. We're looking for a machine learning or mathematical researcher to join and make the role their own. We're the first company to build a product that unpicks human behaviour and we're looking for somebody who is energised by solving hard problems for the first time. You’ll be joining a small team, as the first dedicated researcher who can focus on improvements to our core models.

Our behavioural segmentation engine, BeSeEn, is the foundation of our products and services. This role will help shape and build the future versions of this engine and the application of its outputs. This is a strategic role, research will be presented to the founding team and senior management. We’re looking for someone who is inquisitive and driven. Supported by one of the co-founders, Dr Ed Barter, the successful applicant will be able to take technical and non-technical stakeholders on a journey, delivering short term results, but also getting buy in for longer term investments. This is a role where you can make a real difference to the future of Herdify.

Now, as we scale we need to ensure our product remains the best in the market, and that’s where you come in.

We're looking for somebody:

  • Who has experience writing python for data science and machine learning [pandas, sklearn, keras]
  • Who has proven experience conducting research to compare the performance of machine learning models
  • Who has an interest in network science and its applications to business
  • Who has experience defining requirements and communicating them to a technical audience
  • Who has excellent research skills and are able to identify results from primary research, incorporate them into existing model architectures and assess their benefits
  • Who has experience explaining technical details to a non-technical audience
  • Who doesn’t look to be told what to do; they take what is working and run with it, while applying their own skills
  • Who is organised and detail orientated, with experience documenting the research and experimentation process
  • Who is creative and has a proven record of identifying how scientific theory can be implemented and tested with data

Nice to have:

  • Experience producing production level code
  • Experience in researching marketing effectiveness
  • Experience building network models of social systems
  • An interest in behavioural science
  • Experience with geographical datasets
  • Experience with Docker or other containerization technologies
  • Experience with Bash and linux systems

Responsibilities:

  • Research and experimentation of methods for improving model performance, including new data sets and incorporating network and behavioural science findings.
  • Research and experimentation of deploying model outputs to solve business problems such as marketing targeting, logistic planning and product launches.
  • Design and develop features that implement the results of those experiments as enhancements in the product.
  • Support teams in the rollout of new features into the portal and to customers.
  • Contribute to identifying and prioritising areas for research and improvement, through the analysis of user and market data.
  • Deliver occasional professional services projects when required.
  • Manage research and experimentation projects for the purposes of PR or marketing content.
