Job Summary

The Nicol Unit is a 19‑bed Rehabilitation/Sub‑acute Unit. This role is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, caring and proactive Housekeeper who will focus on providing the highest standard of care for our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with ordering food that meets their dietary requirements; coordinate with ISS catering staff.
  • Maintain meal trolley and oversee meal service during breakfast and lunch; ensure meals are delivered promptly and resolve any discrepancies with nursing staff and the main kitchen.
  • Monitor and record fridge temperatures for the staff, drug, and staff fridges; dispose of out‑of‑date items and keep fridges clean.
  • Report maintenance requests for equipment promptly via the intranet; monitor response times within own remit.
  • Keep patient lockers and bedside tables tidy; maintain cleanliness of nursing equipment and ward workable area.
  • Maintain cleaning records for the sluice and supervise floor cleaning days, ensuring patient safety.
  • Respond to telephone calls courteously and handle patient concerns through communication with nursing staff.
  • Promote effective communication with patients, colleagues, other health‑care staff and visitors; maintain a professional image at all times.

Person Specification

  • Essential Qualifications: Literacy and numeracy skills; 4 GCSEs or equivalent.
  • Essential Experience: Proven verbal and written communication skills; effective time‑management skills.
  • Essential Skills: Awareness of patient and ward confidentiality; excellent organisational skills; good NHS knowledge.
  • Essential Personal Qualities: Able to work as an effective team member; adaptable to a busy environment with frequent interruptions; committed to personal development; able to manage own workload under supervision.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Basic food hygiene, IT skills.
  • Desirable Experience: Previous experience of stock ordering.

Contract and Working Pattern

Fixed‑term, 12‑month, part‑time contract on a 60% duty‑cycle. Working pattern: Part‑time, Monday‑Friday. Salary: £24,465 a year pro rata.
