South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a caring, compassionate, self-motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Support Worker to assist in the delivery of high quality patient care based on the 'Rigby Unit' at Stratford Hospital. The Rigby Unit provides specialist cancer care and supportive treatments to non-cancer patients. CSWs rotate through Reception, Phlebotomy, Outpatient Clinics and the Chemotherapy Treatment Area.

Main duties

  • The Clinical Support Worker will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care and related duties under the direction and supervision of the registered professional and as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • You will support the registered professional in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate care to patients and their relatives.

  • Report to the registered professional any patient concerns or observed changes in condition.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised care under the supervision of the registered professional.
  • Document all care delivered, countersigned by a registered professional, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Prepare patients for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe clinical area.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures.
  • Chaperone or escort patients as needed.
  • Support relatives with compassion and empathy under the guidance of a registered professional.
  • Assist with the discharge process as directed.

Communications and Interpersonal Relationships

  • Welcome patients, relatives and visitors, provide assistance, and be aware of barriers to effective communication.
  • Introduce yourself in line with privacy and dignity promises and customer service principles.
  • Answer the telephone politely and pass enquiries to the registered professional.
  • Communicate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team for well-planned patient care.
  • Contribute to reporting, handover and documentation of patient care while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Report incidents, accidents and complaints as per Trust Policy and to the senior professional on duty.
  • Use the Trust information support system and other computer systems as required by the clinical area.

Team Working

  • Safely keep patients’ property in line with policy.
  • Promote a professional, welcoming and uncluttered environment.
  • Share responsibility for care and maintenance of equipment, including cleaning.
  • Ensure waste and soiled linen are disposed of per policy.
  • Participate in audits under the direction of the registered professional.
  • Prepare beds and spaces for discharge or admission in inpatient areas.
  • Manage deliveries and stock; support housekeeping duties as needed.

Education, Training and Personal Development

  • Attend mandatory training (infection control, resuscitation, manual handling).
  • Complete the Trusts Clinical Support Worker/Healthcare Assistant Induction.
  • Participate in the Trust Appraisal process.
  • Undertake training for development of the post and IT/clinical skills.
  • Continue personal development and stay up to date with policy changes relevant to the post.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualifications: GCSE English and Maths A-C or equivalent
  • Experience: Experience working as part of a team
  • Skills: Able to work to an agreed level of competency; good written, verbal and non-verbal communication; competent IT skills; clear and accurate written and oral communication; ability to organise and prioritise workload; ability to write accurately and legibly
  • Personal Qualities: Able to work as part of a team; compassionate and caring; empathetic; reliable
