Purpose of the Role

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities to support the company’s growth objectives. The role focuses on building strong customer relationships, expanding the customer base, increasing revenue, and promoting the company’s products and services within target markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities through market research, networking, referrals, and lead generation activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers.
  • Generate and qualify sales leads and convert opportunities into profitable business.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to achieve company growth targets.
  • Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and product demonstrations.
  • Prepare and deliver quotations, proposals, and commercial agreements.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms of business within company guidelines.
  • Manage the sales pipeline and maintain accurate records within the CRM system.
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are understood and fulfilled.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Attend industry exhibitions, trade shows, networking events, and customer visits as required.
  • Prepare sales forecasts, reports, and business development activity updates for management.
  • Support the development and implementation of marketing and promotional initiatives.
  • Maintain a high level of product and industry knowledge.
  • Ensure excellent customer service throughout the sales process and beyond.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times and promote its values and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a business development, sales, or account management role.
  • Demonstrated success in generating new business and achieving sales targets.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyse market information and identify business opportunities.
  • Full UK driving licence (customer visits and travel are required).

Qualifications

  • Relevant sales or business development qualifications advantageous.
  • Proven industry experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications.
