Position Overview
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will collaborate with a close-knit team to build and maintain the backend platforms that power social impact initiatives. You will take responsibility for writing, testing and deploying code and infrastructure that serves millions of users. You will work closely with Product Managers and UX Designers to translate requirements into deliverable units, ensuring system performance, security and resilience throughout.
Responsibilities
- Write and test clean, maintainable backend code using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Design and architect reusable software components that scale across the platform.
- Build and design event-driven applications using AWS Lambda and AWS API Gateway.
- Perform thorough code reviews, providing constructive feedback to strengthen team output.
- Deliver major features from concept through to launch, taking ownership end-to-end.
- Ensure system performance, security and resilience across all backend services.
- Operate effectively within regulated and security-sensitive environments.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and UX Designers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency with Node.js and TypeScript (or at least strong genuine experience in strongly typed languages).
- Hands-on experience with DynamoDB, AWS Lambda and AWS API Gateway.
- Proven experience building and designing event-driven applications.
- Solid understanding of unit and integration testing practices.
- Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments is a bonus, but not essential.
- Comfortable taking ownership of features from concept to launch.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
