The Production Engineer is responsible for optimising and supporting manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient production flow, maintaining product quality, and supporting continuous improvement within an electromechanical production environment. Acting as the primary liaison between the Design and Manufacturing departments, especially with NPI (New Product Introduction), this role forms a crucial part of the ongoing development and operational activities, to maximise effectiveness and productivity. Being responsible for supporting the manufacturing department with the execution of its targets by maintaining the tooling and systems required to do so, including the generation and maintenance of work instructions, operating procedures and test specifications, tooling maintenance and liaising with other departments as required.
Job Functions
- Production Process Management
- Develop, implement, and optimise production processes such as Work Instructions, Operating procedures and Test specifications.
- Define process parameters, work instructions, and assembly procedures.
- Ensure processes meet safety, quality, and productivity targets.
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Collaborate with R&D and design engineering to industrialise new products.
- Develop pilot builds, process validation, and transition to full-scale manufacturing.
- Assist in design-for-manufacture (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) reviews.
- Equipment & Tooling Support
- Specify, procure, and maintain production equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
- Diagnose equipment failures and coordinate repairs with maintenance teams.
- Support automation initiatives (e.g. automated assembly or test systems).
- Quality Assurance
- Collaborate with Quality Engineering to establish in-process and final inspection methods.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for defects, scrap, and rework issues.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce non-conformities.
- Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Lead improvement activities using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, and other methodologies.
- Analyse production data to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through process optimisation and material savings.
- Production Support
- Provide day-to-day technical support to operators and technicians.
- Train production staff on new processes, tools, and quality standards.
- Ensure production documentation is accurate, up to date, and properly controlled.
Requirements
- 2+ years of production engineering, manufacturing support or process engineering experience.
- Experience with electromechanical assemblies (motors, sensors, PCBs, actuators, wiring, etc.).
- Exposure to high-mix or low-volume manufacturing environments desirable.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with KPI performance management, process analysis and technical report writing.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and quality tools (FMEA, SPC, 8D, Ishikawa, etc.).
- Experienced with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
