We are looking for a passionate and proactive Registered Nurse to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care to young people with complex needs within our specialist college and residential settings. The successful candidate will provide strong clinical leadership across the service, supporting safe, effective practice and working collaboratively with Education, Care and Therapy teams to promote student wellbeing and independence. They will work closely with the Clinical Team, Head of Care and Registered Manager to ensure regulatory compliance, oversee assessment and care planning, and contribute to continuous quality improvement across the college.
Main duties of the job
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to Nursing Associates and Nursing Assistants.
- Lead the development, implementation and review of holistic, person‑centred care plans.
- Oversee medication management systems and delegated health tasks in line with CQC and legal requirements.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, EHCP processes and pre‑entry assessments.
- Support training, competency assessment and ongoing professional development across the workforce.

Job responsibilities
- Provide clinical nursing leadership, guidance and support across the college workforce, ensuring professional knowledge and skills remain current and evidence‑based.
- Supervise, mentor and develop junior staff, ensuring appropriate oversight, safe practice and professional development.
- Ensure clinical practice aligns with the college Quality Improvement Plan and service objectives.
- Oversee assessment and care delivery for students with complex needs, ensuring appropriate staff allocation.
- Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of training for delegated health tasks, including competency assessment, ensuring all staff receive appropriate induction, mandatory training and role‑specific clinical training to meet standards and legal requirements.
- Take overall responsibility for students' physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
- Develop, implement and review holistic, person‑centred care plans incorporating student views and wishes.
- Promote student independence, dignity, choice and high standards of care.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, infection prevention and control, and relevant legislation.
- Identify and elevate safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policy.
- Contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance, audits and service improvement.
- Undertake essential nursing duties including medication administration and other clinical interventions, supporting training and service delivery.
- Work with College Managers to ensure Care Leaders oversee and monitor medicine administration systems effectively and in accordance with CQC and legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, reporting systems, audits and action plans.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, professionals and multidisciplinary teams.
- Respond to incidents, lead investigations and implement learning to improve practice.
- Participate in on‑call clinical escalation and multidisciplinary meetings as required.
- Ensure staff receive appropriate induction, mandatory and role‑specific clinical training.
- Contribute to EHCP processes, pre‑entry assessments, review reports and support senior leadership as required.

Experience
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

- IT literate with a working knowledge of MS Office in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
- An understanding of the assessment of need for students with disabilities and the resource needs that come from it
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Understanding of the needs of students with learning difficulties and/or other disabilities
- Ability to work within a team and contribute to development of new projects, policies and procedures
- Understanding of the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety/CQC
- Understanding of Child Protection/Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures
- An overview/understanding of the roles of other professionals in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with young people with disabilities in a learning environment
- Knowledge of the regulatory framework within which a residential college for people with learning and physical disabilities operates, including the needs of children under 18.
- Experience, knowledge or understanding of specialist methods of communication, i.e. Braille, BSL, Makaton etc.
Qualifications
- A Registered Nurse with a current NMC PIN Number
- Appropriately trained and qualified to supervise the delivery of nursing tasks through the delivery of staff training and undertaking competency assessments
- Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
