Henshaws is a northern charity supporting people with a range of disabilities to live independent and fulfilling lives. We are proud to have recently developed a specialist Short Breaks Service designed to provide high quality, person centred care and enriching experiences for individuals with additional and complex needs. This innovative respite service offers a safe, supportive environment where people can enjoy meaningful short stays, while families gain peace of mind knowing their loved ones are cared for by a dedicated team. As a Care Support Worker at Ribble Short Breaks Service, you will:

  • Provide high quality personal care with dignity and respect.
  • Support individuals with mobility, communication, independence, and daily living skills.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, person centred support.
  • Support the people we support to enjoy activities of their choice, including swimming, walking, cooking, leisure, and community engagement.
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to care reviews and quality of life planning.
  • Help maintain a safe, compliant environment through checks and audits.
  • Promote best practice, dignity, independence, and safeguarding at all times.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic, respectful, and passionate about supporting young adults.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure and work confidently as part of a team.
  • Committed to promoting independence and choice.
  • Willing to undertake mandatory training and work towards the Care Certificate.
  • Flexible with working hours (including some evenings and weekends).

Experience in care, learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs is welcome but not essential. If you bring the right attitude, we will provide the skills.

Henshaws is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults. It is a criminal offence for people barred from working in regulated activity to apply for roles that require them to work unsupervised with that particular group e.g. vulnerable adults, children or both. An Enhanced DBS with barring and reference checks will be sought from the successful candidates.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that the care support needs of each student are met, as directed by their individual care plan.
  • Ensure that the learning needs of the students are supported as directed by education staff.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures including safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Complete comprehensive record keeping and documentation relating to students care, support and progress.
  • Advocate on behalf of students and attend student meetings to enable/assist students to express their views.
  • Support managers in information gathering and contribute to updating students care plans.
  • Take an active role in organising and supporting the students with leisure activities.
  • Report any concerns to the care management team or any other manager which may affect student/staff welfare or safety.
  • Champion a professional working environment and comply with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings as required.
  • Support the assessment process for potential new students.
  • Engage in the debrief and reflective practice process.
  • Strive to support the students to build their confidence and develop their independence.

Person Specification:

  • Willingness to assist students with any personal care requirements as needed.
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic, respectful and sensitive attitude to our client group.
  • Commitment to furthering student’s independence.
  • Ability to promote the student group in a positive and professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work towards Care Certificate within first 6 months of employment.
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
