Ecologist - Edinburgh

Are you an Ecologist looking for your next contract opportunity with the potential to secure a permanent position?
I'm working with a small, well-established consultancy in Edinburgh that is looking to bring an experienced Contract Ecologist into their team. This is a great opportunity to join a close-knit consultancy where you'll have the chance to broaden your experience, work on a variety of projects and play an important role in delivering ecological services to clients.
The Role
You'll be involved in a range of ecological projects across the region, with a particular focus on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking BNG assessments and supporting the delivery of biodiversity enhancements.
- Carrying out ECoW duties, including monitoring construction activities and ensuring compliance with ecological requirements.
- Conducting protected species surveys and site assessments.
- Preparing clear and accurate technical reports.
- Liaising with clients, contractors and other environmental professionals.
- Supporting the delivery of projects in line with relevant legislation and best practice.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working as an Ecologist/Seasonal Ecologist within a consultancy or similar environment.
- Practical experience in BNG and ECoW work.
- Ideally, experience undertaking protected species surveys.
- Good report-writing and communication skills.
- The ability to manage workloads independently while working effectively as part of a small team.
- A full UK driving licence would be beneficial, depending on project requirements.
