Garden Organic is seeking an inspiring individual who is great at making connections and sharing knowledge to be our representative, and coordinate work on the ground in the Hampshire area.
Location: Home-based (with regular travel around the Hampshire region)
Project Area: Hampshire
Reports to: Training Manager
Hours: 14-17.5 hours per week (0.4-0.5 FTE)
Working Pattern: Variable delivery hours including some weekends/evenings
Salary: £24,500-30,000 pro rata
Term: 18 months FTC
Working in partnership with The Greening Campaign, we are supporting communities to develop organic food growing, seed saving and waste prevention activity. The primary purpose of this role is to support communities & residents to effect positive change in their local area. The post holder will provide expertise & practical support for communities. They will make positive connections and engage with local stakeholders and project partners.
The project coordinator will deliver engaging and inspiring workshops covering the themes of organic food growing and waste prevention to local volunteer champions at venues across Hampshire. Weekend & evening working will be required.
- Build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships in the project area, identifying opportunities to increase food growing, waste prevention and seed saving.
- Responsible for planning and coordinating Greening Campaign project activities in line with the objectives and milestones defined.
- Act as the day-to-day Garden Organic point of contact for Greening Campaign community leads and project teams.
- Support communities to plan for & achieve their ambitions in relation to community growing and waste prevention.
- Provide organic growing and waste prevention advice, training and support for beneficiaries at sessions both in-person and online.
- Support community engagement to reach individuals from all areas of the local community.
- Responsible for ensuring all arrangements for training/workshop events including venue hire/catering, administration and promotion of events are in place.
- Responsible for the delivery (where appropriate) of workshops & training sessions.
- Gather project data/evidence/information/photographs and feedback as required, following all Garden Organic and project policies and guidelines.
- Identify and produce case studies/reports to showcase activity.
- Assist in project monitoring and evaluation including collating feedback.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the organisations outreach work – sharing learning and opportunities across Garden Organic.
- Administrative tasks as required.
- Represent and champion Garden Organic's mission, values, and strategic objectives while delivering agreed project outcomes and objectives.
It is the nature of work of Garden Organic that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises where tasks are not specifically covered in the Job Description. The nature of work at Garden Organic and working with communities, volunteers and the public requires a flexible approach to hours of work including evening and weekend working.
A strong understanding of one or more of the following:
- Community activism
- Waste prevention methods
- Food growing/seed saving projects
Skilled at developing productive partnerships and collaborative working relationships. Experience of building effective relationships within communities and supporting community-led initiatives. Previous experience of coordinating training/events. Previous experience of delivering training and events. A team player with good oral and written communication skills. Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate stakeholders and deliver impact. Experience of working effectively as part of a home-based/remote team. Ability to work effectively and flexibly. Excellent attention to detail. Experienced in quantitative and qualitative evidence collection for outcome and funding purposes. An understanding of, and commitment to, organisational policies and statutory requirements, including health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, and data protection. Positive, enthusiastic and dynamic approach. Full driving licence and access to a car. Local knowledge of project area (geography/stakeholders). Understanding of issues related to food growing, waste prevention and the environment. Understanding of issues related to working with vulnerable/hard to reach groups. Interest in the aims and purpose of Garden Organic.
