We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Second in Charge of Mathematics to join our successful and forward‑thinking Mathematics department in a thriving secondary school. Working closely with the Head of Mathematics, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the department, driving standards, and ensuring excellent outcomes for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where applicable, Key Stage 5.
The Role
- Support the leadership and day‑to‑day management of the Mathematics department
- Deliver engaging and high‑quality Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
- Assist in curriculum planning, assessment, and departmental improvement strategies
- Monitor student progress and contribute to raising attainment and achievement
- Support and mentor colleagues, including ECTs and less experienced teachers
- Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and academic excellence
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- A degree in Mathematics or a related subject
- Proven experience teaching Mathematics in a secondary school setting
- A strong track record of excellent classroom practice and student outcomes
- Leadership potential or previous middle leadership experience within a department
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to continuous professional development and whole‑school improvement
