Construction Skills & Maintenance Tutor Location: Leicester and East Midlands Contract: Permanent Hours: 9:00am–3:00pm M-F Salary: £30,000-£33,000 per annum The Role We are looking for an experienced Construction or Maintenance professional who would like to use their practical skills to support and teach young people. You do not need to be a qualified teacher. We welcome applications from experienced tradespeople who are interested in moving into education, with training and development available. You'll work with small groups of young people, delivering practical construction and maintenance sessions from our Leicester training centre and within partner schools across the East Midlands. Lesson plans and course content are already prepared, so your main focus will be delivering engaging practical sessions and helping learners develop their skills and confidence. What You'll Be Teaching You'll support learners with basic skills across areas including: * Plastering * Wall and floor tiling * Joinery and woodworking * Small woodwork projects * Painting and decorating * Wallpapering * General property maintenance and repairs * Safe use of hand and power tools * Workshop health & safety You don't need to be an expert in every trade, but you'll need a good all-round practical construction or maintenance background and NVQs in Construction. What We're Looking For We're interested in people with experience as a: Multi-Skilled Tradesperson | Maintenance Operative | Property Maintenance Technician | Joiner | Carpenter | Painter & Decorator | Construction Operative | Handyman / Multi-Trade You'll need practical industry experience, good communication skills and the ability to engage patiently and positively with young people. Previous teaching, training, coaching or mentoring experience is desirable but not essential. Experience working with young people, alternative provision or SEMH learners would also be beneficial. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous due to delivery taking place across different locations. About the Learners You'll be supporting young people who may have been excluded from mainstream education, be at risk of exclusion, attend on reduced timetables or need additional support to engage with learning. This isn't traditional classroom teaching. The focus is on practical, hands-on learning, helping young people build confidence, develop employability skills and gain an introduction to careers within construction and the trades
