We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Second in Charge of Mathematics to join our successful and forward-thinking Mathematics department in a thriving secondary school. Working closely with the Head of Mathematics, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the department, driving standards, and ensuring excellent outcomes for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where applicable, Key Stage 5.

The Role

  • Support the leadership and day-to-day management of the Mathematics department
  • Deliver engaging and high-quality Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
  • Assist in curriculum planning, assessment, and departmental improvement strategies
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to raising attainment and achievement
  • Support and mentor colleagues, including ECTs and less experienced teachers
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and academic excellence

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A degree in Mathematics or a related subject
  • Proven experience teaching Mathematics in a secondary school setting
  • A strong track record of excellent classroom practice and student outcomes
  • Leadership potential or previous middle leadership experience within a department
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and whole-school improvement
