Reporting to Nominated Partner (Commercial Property)

Main purpose of Job

  • To provide a professional legal service to allocated clients.
  • To maintain and develop own technical legal capability.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work unsupervised for all smaller cases as allocated by the senior solicitor.
  • To work in conjunction with the senior solicitor on bigger cases on tasks allocated by and as supervised by the senior solicitor.
  • To update yourself on all aspects (legal, technical etc) of the allocated area of work.
  • Ensure all work is of the highest professional standard and in accordance with current regulations, legislation and Court practice.
  • Ensure compliance by you and your staff, with the Practice’s Office Procedures Manual including (but not limited to) its written policies and procedures.
  • To supervise the work of any member of staff allocated to you, and to ensure that s/he/they perform to the highest standard.
  • To provide, and ensure the provision by you and your staff, of a comprehensive, courteous, efficient and cost effective legal service to all clients of the Practice.
  • To deal with their enquiries in an efficient, timely and reasonable manner and take all necessary actions arising from such enquiries.
  • Ensure your own legal and procedural knowledge is maintained and developed, by obtaining appropriate training as agreed with the senior solicitor, and to share that knowledge as appropriate with other team members.
  • To ensure that you and your staff keep accurate records of all work undertaken, and that such work is properly costed, as required.
  • To comply and ensure compliance by you and your staff with all reasonable financial and administrative directions given by the Practice from time to time.
  • To be responsible for own safety and not endanger that of colleagues/visitors in the work place.
  • To undertake such other legal, management and administrative duties as may reasonably be directed by the Head of your Department from time to time.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL

  • Experience of Commercial Property is essential and also Residential Conveyancing.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Case Management Software.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to analyse information and present accurate findings.
  • Ability to draft own correspondence and applications.
  • Ability to advise clients on commercial property issues personally and via the telephone or via email.
  • Ability to supervise and delegate to junior staff where appropriate.
  • Ability to work within a team and in an open plan office environment.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in a range of areas of litigation.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with existing clients, other members of staff and have the potential to establish new client contacts through networking.
  • Computer literate.
