Estimator / Quantity Surveyor
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 (depending on experience)

The Role
An established and growing residential construction company based in St Albans is seeking an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor. The role will focus on residential new build and refurbishment projects, supporting the commercial function from tender stage through to final account. This position would suit a commercially aware professional with experience in residential or refurbishment works who is looking to join a stable business with clear progression opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for residential and refurbishment projects
- Carry out quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Price labour, materials, and subcontract packages
- Assist with subcontractor and supplier procurement
- Manage cost control, valuations, variations, and final accounts
- Monitor budgets and report cost versus value
- Liaise with site teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors
- Support commercial reporting and forecasting
Requirements
- Previous experience in an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor role within residential and/or refurbishment projects
- Strong understanding of construction methods and costs
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Competent in Excel and relevant estimating/QS software
