We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead a growing design team working on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This senior management role combines technical oversight, team leadership, and client engagement, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards.
You will manage a multidisciplinary design team, integrating expertise across civil and electrical engineering, while driving excellence in project delivery, team development, and compliance with design and construction regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary design team, providing direction, development, and performance management.
- Deliver a growing programme of BESS projects, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and financial performance.
- Act as a senior leader, shaping team culture to promote safety, employee wellbeing, client focus, and a positive working environment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant design and construction regulations, including CDM 2015 requirements for Principal Designer and Designer roles.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, ensuring project outcomes meet or exceed expectations.
- Oversee recruitment, retention, competence development, and staff progression to support current and future project demands.
- Manage project budgets, programme delivery, and resource allocation across multiple projects.
- Provide leadership in both civil and electrical design, including network design, new connections, and capital works programmes.
- Degree in engineering, science, or a related technical discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).
- Proven experience managing and developing multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong track record of delivering design projects on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
- Knowledge of civil and electrical construction methods and techniques across multiple voltage levels (LV to 400kV).
- Experience in electrical network design, including work within transmission and distribution networks.
- Ability to manage complex design and build projects, balancing competing priorities to deliver better outcomes.
- Experience in tendering and delivering large, complex projects.
