We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead and deliver complex mechanical construction projects across the South East. This role involves managing projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring delivery is safe, compliant, on time, and within budget. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical competence in mechanical building services, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across several sites.
This is a key position within the project delivery team, responsible for managing the mechanical package on new build developments. You will oversee site activities, coordinate consultants and supply chain partners, and ensure high standards of quality, safety, and performance throughout the project lifecycle.
Projects typically include:
- New build residential housing and apartment developments
- Purpose-built care homes
- Commercial new build schemes (offices, mixed-use buildings, light industrial)
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical works on multiple new build projects (typically £500k–£3m)
- Lead installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, quality, and design requirements
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and site teams to maintain effective working relationships
- Coordinate subcontractors and internal delivery teams
- Control budgets, resources, and programme delivery
- Produce project documentation, progress reports, and internal feedback
- Chair site meetings and technical reviews
- Manage mandatory project cost systems and approve weekly invoices
- Resolve technical and delivery issues as they arise
- Provide weekly reports and updates to the Contracts Manager
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing mechanical services on new build construction projects
- Strong technical knowledge of heating, hot & cold water, ventilation, and renewable systems (e.g. heat pumps, underfloor heating)
- Ability to interpret mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications
- Proven leadership and organisational skills
- Good working knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM, and industry standards (CIBSE, BESA, etc.)
- Commercial awareness with experience under JCT and Design & Build contracts
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing & Heating (NVQ Level 3 preferred)
- SMSTS / SSSTS / IOSH
- CSCS Card (Manager or Supervisor level)
- Experience delivering projects for national housebuilders or care home providers
