We are working with an established contractor looking to recruit a Surveyor / Estimator to join their team based in Durham. Ideally, this person will have a background in mechanical services or HVAC and be capable of managing projects from initial pricing and tender through to completion and final handover.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of their work, combining estimating and surveying responsibilities with hands-on project management once contracts have been secured.

The Role

  • Survey projects and assess requirements, specifications and drawings.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions.
  • Calculate labour, materials, plant and subcontractor costs.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Identify project risks, potential variations and commercial opportunities.
  • Support the tender process and follow up on submitted quotations.

  • Manage projects through planning, procurement, scheduling and delivery.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and profitability.
  • Coordinate labour, materials and subcontractors throughout the works.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage variations, valuations and commercial matters as required.
  • Ensure works are completed to the required quality, specification and programme.
  • Oversee snagging, final documentation and project handover.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Surveyor, Estimator or similar role within the construction or building services sector.
  • Ideally, experience in mechanical services, HVAC, heating, ventilation or air conditioning.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Strong estimating, commercial and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing projects from award through to completion would be advantageous.
  • Confident communicating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and take responsibility for project delivery.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects from the initial estimate through to final handover, providing variety and responsibility across both the commercial and operational sides of the business
