We are a well-established civils and groundworks contractor operating across the residential sector, primarily delivering infrastructure and groundworks packages for major PLC housebuilding clients. The business currently manages approximately 30 live contracts at any one time, with an annual turnover of £110m and a workforce of around 700 operatives. Due to continued growth and workload, we are looking to strengthen our commercial team.

The commercial structure currently includes a Commercial Director and three Senior Quantity Surveyors, with a planned succession to Managing Director in the coming years. This presents an excellent opportunity to join a business focused on long-term development, progression, and strengthening its commercial leadership.

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of multiple residential civils and groundworks projects. The role will involve full commercial responsibility from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with operational teams, clients, and senior management to ensure projects are delivered profitably, compliantly, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial management of civils and groundworks packages on residential developments
  • Preparation and submission of monthly valuations and applications for payment
  • Cost value reconciliation (CVRs) and financial reporting
  • Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Measurement, pricing, and agreement of variations
  • Change control and compensation event management
  • Final account preparation and negotiation
  • Liaison with site teams to ensure cost control and programme alignment
  • Working closely with clients, particularly major PLC housebuilders
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team (senior level)
  • Assisting senior management with commercial strategy and risk management
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Proven experience within civils and groundworks, ideally in the residential sector
  • Experience working with PLC housebuilders
  • Strong understanding of subcontract procurement and management
  • Solid knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Accurate, organised, and financially astute
  • Able to work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams
  • Ambitious and motivated, with a desire to progress within a growing business
