As Lead Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering detailed electrical designs and fully coordinated construction information across a wide range of building services projects. This is a hands-on role focused on producing high-quality, buildable design outputs that support efficient on-site delivery. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and represent the design function in client-facing settings, including design workshops, technical reviews, and progress meetings.
Reporting to the Head of MEP Design, you will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and ensure all deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities- Produce detailed electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and calculation packages.
- Deliver coordinated and buildable design information for construction projects.
- Represent the design team in client meetings, workshops, and technical reviews.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, structural, architectural) to ensure integrated design delivery.
- Work closely with BIM teams to ensure accurate and coordinated digital models and drawing outputs.
- Review and interpret technical information to ensure compliance, accuracy, and constructability.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies, including maintaining risk registers.
- Review external designs, identifying non-compliance, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support RFIs and resolve technical queries throughout project delivery.
- Contribute to value engineering processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure all deliverables meet relevant standards, regulations, and project requirements.
- Manage workloads and prioritise tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, ensuring consistent quality across outputs.

Essential Skills & Experience- Degree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in electrical design.
- Proven experience delivering design packages from concept through to completion.
- Strong ability to produce technical deliverables (drawings, specifications, schematics, schedules).
- Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Relux or equivalent).
- Sound knowledge of British Standards and statutory regulations.
- Strong understanding of IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition).
- Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
- Experience in BIM environments with coordinated design outputs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and risk management.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and documentation tools.
- Experience designing Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and/or professional membership (e.g., IET).
- Knowledge of Department for Education (DfE) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) requirements.
- Understanding of decarbonisation strategies and energy modelling.
- Experience conducting financial appraisals (ROI, carbon savings, energy performance).
- Proficiency in Revit and BIM-led design environments.
- Commercial awareness within construction project delivery.
- Experience working with or alongside main contractors or M&E contractors.
- Knowledge of fire stopping coordination and builder’s work requirements.
- Experience contributing to value engineering processes.
- Ability to improve processes and drive team efficiency.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of company and client information.
- Work safely and in compliance with relevant HSE guidelines and company policies.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
