Buyer
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join an established and growing organisation within the construction and building services sector.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the procurement of materials, plant, equipment and subcontract services, ensuring the business achieves the best possible cost, quality and delivery across its projects.
You will work closely with project, commercial and operational teams to ensure procurement requirements are identified, managed and delivered within agreed timescales and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement of materials, equipment, plant and subcontract services.
- Source and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve competitive pricing.
- Obtain, review and compare quotations.
- Place and manage purchase orders.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier and subcontractor relationships.
- Monitor lead times and ensure materials and services are delivered in line with project requirements.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Estimators and operational teams.
- Assist with procurement planning and project budgets.
- Identify potential cost savings and commercial opportunities.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any procurement issues.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
- Ensure purchasing activity follows agreed processes and procedures.
- Assist with the evaluation and onboarding of new suppliers.
- Manage multiple procurement requirements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
About You
We are looking for an organised, commercially minded and proactive individual with experience working within construction procurement, buying or quantity surveying.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Buyer, Procurement, Quantity Surveying or similar commercial role.
- Experience within the construction or building services sector.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Proven experience negotiating prices and commercial terms.
- Ability to analyse quotations and identify best-value options.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Commercially aware with a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and procurement/commercial systems.
