The Role

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility for assigned construction projects, ensuring strong financial control, effective risk management, and contractual compliance from contract award through to final account. Working closely with senior management, project teams, clients, and the supply chain, you will play a key role in delivering projects efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with commercial best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall commercial responsibility for assigned projects, ensuring financial performance, contractual compliance, and risk are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the commercial strategy on projects, supporting contract negotiations, risk reviews, and the resolution of commercial and contractual issues.
  • Prepare and manage commercial reporting, including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cost forecasting, change management, and project cost control.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, providing recommendations to senior management.
  • Prepare and manage claims, contra-charges, contractual notices, and supporting legal correspondence.
  • Administer client and subcontractor contracts, ensuring contractual and financial obligations are met.
  • Manage subcontract procurement, contract administration, and payment processes.
  • Support technical procurement activities in line with project requirements.
  • Monitor commercial performance and ensure compliance with internal procedures and standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders through regular communication and site visits.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor working for a Tier 2 contractor.
  • Strong understanding of standard and bespoke forms of construction contract.
  • Proven experience managing the commercial aspects of projects from contract award through to final account.
  • Sound knowledge of cost control, CVRs, variations, change management, and final accounts.
  • Experience with subcontract procurement, administration, and payment processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of current construction legislation and industry regulations.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and offices as required.
