Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Subcontractor Estimator with a strong background in groundworks, basements, RC frames, demolition, cut and carve, temporary works, and steel frames. This is a hands-on estimating role working solely within the subcontractor sector—candidates with main contractor experience will not be considered. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive cost estimates for a variety of civil engineering and structural projects, ensuring all bids reflect commercial and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions for subcontractor packages.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Conduct material and labour take-offs for groundworks, basements, RC frames, demolition, cut and carve, temporary works, and steel frame works.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Review and assess subcontractor pricing and proposals.
  • Identify project risks, programme constraints, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Support commercial teams with bid strategies and pre-tender meetings.
  • Maintain and update internal estimating records and cost databases.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience as a subcontractor estimator within groundworks, demolition, or structural packages.
  • Strong knowledge of basements, RC frames, cut and carve, steel frames, and temporary works.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness.
  • Strong understanding of subcontractor procurement and pricing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
