About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our groundworks and civil engineering team based in Bristol. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing project costs, producing accurate estimates, supporting tenders, and ensuring commercial performance across a range of residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating
- Prepare accurate and competitive tenders for groundworks and civils projects.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and technical documents.
- Conduct take-offs and create detailed cost breakdowns.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
- Support bid submissions, value engineering proposals, and tender presentations.
- Commercial management of projects from pre-construction to final account.
- Prepare and issue valuations, applications for payment, and cost forecasts.
- Monitor site progress, variations, and change management.
- Produce detailed cost reports, cashflow projections, and financial summaries.
- Measure and value works on site in collaboration with project managers and engineers.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and payments.
- Work closely with estimators, project managers, site teams, and the commercial manager.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms (NEC, JCT, bespoke).
- Attend site meetings across Bristol and the South West region.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a QS / Estimator within groundworks or civil engineering.
- Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, foundations, roads, utilities, and infrastructure packages.
- Proficient with take-off and estimating software (e.g., Causeway, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and reporting skills.
- Driving licence required (regional site visits).
