Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of Design & Build construction projects across the student accommodation and industrial/warehouse sectors. The successful candidate will assist in cost control, procurement, and commercial reporting while developing their career within a growing commercial team.
This role is suited to a driven individual with early-stage industry experience who is looking to progress toward Quantity Surveyor level within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Cost Management
- Assist with cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Support preparation of monthly valuations and cost value reconciliations (CVRs)
- Assist in monitoring project costs and identifying variances
- Support final account preparation
- Assist with preparation of subcontractor enquiry packages
- Analyse tender returns and support subcontractor selection
- Assist with placing subcontract orders in line with project budgets
- Assist with administration of Design & Build contracts
- Support management of variations, change control, and compensation events
- Maintain accurate commercial and contractual records
- Work closely with site teams and project managers
- Attend site and commercial meetings as required
- Assist with value engineering and risk management processes
Required Experience & Skills
- 1β3 yearsβ experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role
- Experience or exposure to Design & Build projects
- Experience in student accommodation, residential, or industrial/warehouse sectors preferred
- Basic understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT)
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Organised with strong attention to detail
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and Office
Desirable
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar
- Working towards RICS or equivalent professional qualification
- Experience with CVRs and subcontractor valuations
