Henkels & McCoy is currently seeking Fiber Splicers for our Telecom program in Indiana. Current work locations are: Elkhart, Valparaiso, Lafayette, Kokomo, Marion.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and advance Henkels & McCoy’s Safety Principles and work with foreman/construction manager to plan installations as required.
  • Use and understand the fiber optic color code, read prints, and install and test fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, aerial).
  • Bond and ground fibers according to current specifications.
  • Place both aerial and underground splice closures along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Use fiber fusion splicing machines (including a mass fusion splicing machine) and operate a variety of different OTDR and power meters.
  • Perform testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources, and VFLs; record and document testing per customer specifications.
  • Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • Thorough working knowledge of widely used construction practices of fiber cable.
  • Ability to detect safety issues and work independently.
  • A pre-employment, on-site skills assessment certification will be required; the applicant must successfully prove to the satisfaction of the construction supervision that he/she possesses the fiber splicing abilities required for this position.
  • This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces, and performing overall physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical work and duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be capable of carrying up to a 32-foot ladder and wearing fall protection when needed.
  • Work up to 5 days per week (ability to work overtime as required) in an all-weather environment and be willing to travel as required.
