HENI is an international art services business working with leading artists and estates across printmaking, marketplaces for physical artworks, NFTs, publishing, digital, video production, art research and analysis. HENI is at the cutting edge of art and tech using the latest and best technologies to bring art to life.

Launched in 2018, HENI Talks is dedicated to sharing insights about art history on film from leading artists, curators and academics. HENI Talks’ growing catalogue of films aims to open art up to the wider public and create a platform through which everyone can learn about art history and can discuss, enjoy, and engage with it. We also work in close collaboration with museums and galleries worldwide, filming on location to highlight the rich narratives inherent in their collections. Learn more about HENI Talks here:

The Role

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented filmmaker to produce captivating art documentaries. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts, a strong background in documentary filmmaking, and the ability to craft visually stunning narratives that celebrate artists, their works, and the cultural significance of art and art history.

This position will be predominantly based in our office on Lexington Street, London. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Key Responsibilities

1) Research & Concept Development:

  • Conduct in-depth research on artists, art movements, and cultural contexts.
  • Develop compelling documentary concepts and narratives that resonate with audiences.
  • Collaborate with curators, artists, and art historians to ensure accuracy and depth.

2) Pre-production:

  • Plan shoots, including location scouting, securing permissions at museums, galleries, or artist studios.
  • Create detailed scripts and shot lists tailored to each project.
  • Assemble and manage a production team, including camera operators and sound technicians.

3) Production:

  • Direct interviews with artists, curators, and subject-matter experts, capturing authentic and engaging stories.
  • Film art installations, exhibitions, and studio environments with a keen eye for detail.
  • Use high-quality cameras, lighting, and sound equipment to capture visually stunning and clear footage.

4) Post-production:

  • Edit documentary footage into compelling stories, incorporating archival materials, interviews, and B-roll seamlessly.
  • Add music, voiceovers, and sound design to enhance the narrative.
  • Collaborate with motion graphic designers for titles, animations, and credits where necessary.

5) Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with stakeholders, including producers, art institutions, and sponsors, to align creative vision.
  • Integrate feedback from stakeholders into the project while maintaining artistic integrity.

6) Content Delivery:

  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality, polished documentaries in the required formats for screenings, festivals, or online platforms.
  • Optimize content for distribution on streaming platforms, broadcast, and social media.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Film Production, Art History, Media Studies, or related field (preferred but not mandatory with equivalent experience).
  • Experience in documentary filmmaking, with a portfolio of completed works, ideally including art-focused projects.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality, visually stunning video content.
  • Technical proficiency and expertise in using professional cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Advanced skills in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro).
  • Knowledge of motion graphics, archival footage integration, and sound design is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of art history, contemporary art, and cultural storytelling.
  • Ability to translate complex art concepts into engaging and accessible narratives.
  • Creative vision and exceptional storytelling skills with a talent for visually representing the essence of art.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to manage schedules, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, particularly when working with artists and institutions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility to travel for on-location shoots, including internationally if necessary.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings or weekends, depending on project needs.
  • Familiarity with working in gallery, museum, or studio environments is a plus.
