A hands-on Solution Architect is needed to lead the design of a critical IT platform for our public sector client in Scotland. Candidates who hold active SC clearance are strongly preferred.
The role requires both high-level architectural leadership and practical technical expertise, including the ability to work closely with engineering teams and resolve complex technical challenges.
Key responsibilities:- Provide architectural leadership across programmes and technical domains
- Oversee solution delivery and ensure alignment with enterprise principles
- Define and review solution designs, ensuring standards are met
- Guide teams on best practice and maintain traceability from requirements to designs
- Develop and maintain architecture governance, templates and reference models
- Support continuous improvement and adoption of emerging trends
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, able to influence at senior level
- Hands-on experience in technical and solution architecture across agile and waterfall delivery
- Broad understanding of Microsoft and Linux technologies across physical, virtual and containerised environments
- Knowledge of both software (COTS) and infrastructure design, including data centre environments
- Experience defining technical standards, roadmaps and blueprints across services
- Cloud expertise across major providers (Azure, AWS, GCP, Oracle), including IaC, governance and cost optimisation
- Designing solutions for sensitive or secure environments
- Applying zero trust principles
- Embedding security into all phases of solution design
- Identity and access management, including privileged access
- Software-defined data centres and virtualisation technologies
3 days onsite in Glasgow is also required.
