We are seeking an experienced Service Designer to lead the end-to-end design of user-centred services within a complex public sector ecosystem. This role is pivotal in ensuring digital touchpoints align with policy intent while maintaining strict adherence to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.

The Role

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams-including policy, product, and delivery-to map complex systems and identify pain points.
  • Create evidenced 'as-is' maps and develop service blueprints that translate technical constraints into intuitive user journeys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Service Design: Create end-to-end services that meet diverse user needs and ensure accessibility across all touchpoints.
  • Ecosystem Mapping: Analyse dependencies and service ecosystems to provide visual, easy-to-understand artefacts.
  • Collaborative Design: Facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions, designing 'in the open' to share knowledge across the wider design community.
  • Strategy & Advocacy: Advocate for inclusive design practices and support the development of long-term service strategies and roadmaps.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior designers and contribute to the growth of the internal design profession.

Requirements

  • Public Sector Expertise: Extensive experience working within government departments and a deep understanding of GDS.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to align designs with organisational goals and technical delivery capabilities.
  • Security Clearance: You must hold current, active SC Clearance to be considered for this position.
  • UCD Focus: A proven track record of using verified information to solve complex service problems.
