A well-established and expanding legal practice with multiple offices across the South East. The firm offers a full range of legal services to individuals and businesses, including commercial, dispute resolution, litigation, employment, corporate, intellectual property, real estate, cyber security, and technology/media/telecoms law. Success is driven by a commitment to clients, colleagues, and professional networks. Due to increased workload a Personal Injury/Clinical Negligence Fee-Earner is required to join the team.
The Department
Job Purpose
Operate as an effective member of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team, supporting other fee earners. Work on a range of personal injury and clinical negligence cases, including (but not limited to) road traffic collisions, employer's liability, public and occupiers' liability, and cases involving misdiagnosis or failure to treat. Manage a personal caseload under supervision, meeting individual fee and performance targets. Support other team members as needed and contribute to achieving departmental objectives.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Personal: Assist senior team members (Partners and Associates) on complex matters while managing own cases under supervision. Contribute to a collaborative and efficient working environment. Participate in internal training and technical development to maintain legal knowledge and skills. Attend team meetings to review current matters, performance, and strategy. Promote the firm's values and contribute to a culture of openness and continuous improvement. Take part in regular reviews and provide input for objective-setting.
- Legal: Provide legal services to clients across a range of personal injury and clinical negligence matters.
- Financial: Achieve personal financial targets for fees, contributions, and disbursement recoveries. Maintain accurate case data and records on internal systems. Monitor individual performance metrics (e.g. file openings/closures, billings, time recording) and take appropriate action to ensure targets are met. Appropriately scope work using budgeting tools to deliver services efficiently and within agreed costs.
- Client Care: Deliver excellent client service and ensure high standards of care to encourage repeat business and client referrals.
- Business Development: Support marketing and business development activities, such as writing for newsletters or attending events and seminars.
- Risk and Compliance: Ensure full compliance with anti-money laundering policies, financial services regulations, and other internal risk procedures. Participate in regular team risk reviews.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Prior experience or demonstrable capability in personal injury and/or clinical negligence.
- Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant legislation (e.g., Pre-Action Protocols, LASPO, fixed recoverable costs updates, case law).
- Strong time management skills to meet client needs and internal deadlines.
- Understanding of client care and ability to work with a range of client profiles and objectives.
- Team player capable of supporting and learning from senior colleagues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and legal software systems (e.g., Outlook, Word, digital dictation tools, case/document management systems like Aderant or iManage).
- Strong drafting skills and high attention to detail.
- Clear communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to explain legal matters effectively.
- Awareness of broader firm strategy and an ability to align with its vision.
