An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seasoned Solution Architect to join one of the largest AWS-based developer platforms in the UK. This platform supports over 100 teams and manages multiple critical workloads, offering a high-scale environment for a pragmatist who thrives on complex problem-solving.
The Role
- Design & Governance: You will translate new requirements into robust design options, navigating them through formal assurance and into the delivery pipeline.
- Team Support: You will act as a technical touchpoint for delivery teams, helping to resolve roadmap blockers and providing architectural analysis for service incidents.
- Strategy: You will contribute to long-term architectural strategies and ad-hoc projects delegated by the Senior Management Team.
Due to the scale of the platform, you will work closely with a wider architectural community to exploit 'tribal knowledge' and ensure solutions are integrated across multiple domains.
Key Skills & Experience
Mandatory Requirements:
- Expert AWS Knowledge: Deep understanding of core services including VPCs, subnets, EC2, Lambda, S3, Route 53, and VPC endpoints.
- Networking: Strong grasp of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and proxy patterns.
- Containers: Good broad architectural understanding of Containers and Kubernetes.
- Documentation & Communication: Proven ability to produce high-quality design documentation and communicate complex technical issues to everyone from junior engineers to senior leaders.
- Soft Skills: Strong evidence of influencing, negotiating, and evidence-based decision-making.
Desirable (Optional) Experience:
- We value architects who can adapt quickly to unfamiliar tools. Experience in any of the following is highly advantageous:
- Observability: Elasticsearch Stack, Dynatrace, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Security & Identity: Hashicorp Vault, LDAP, Redhat SSO, OIDC, and Firewalling (Fortigate/AWS Network Firewall).
- Infrastructure/DevOps: Terraform, Concourse, AWS EKS, or Transit Gateway.
- Connectivity: VPNs (OpenVPN/Site-to-Site) and Proxy Servers (Nginx/Squid).
