Job Title: Tax Disputes Lawyer

About the Role
We are seeking a talented and driven mid-level tax disputes lawyer to join a leading international law firm with a highly regarded tax team in London. The firm is known for its exceptional client base, including multinational corporations, financial institutions, and high-net-worth individuals, as well as its expertise in handling complex and high-profile contentious tax matters.
In this role, you will work on a wide range of tax disputes, from HMRC investigations and tribunal proceedings to alternative dispute resolution and judicial reviews. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career within a supportive, collaborative, and high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising clients on all stages of tax disputes, including compliance reviews, HMRC investigations, settlement discussions, and litigation.
- Drafting legal submissions, witness statements, and other key documents in connection with tax litigation and dispute resolution.
- Managing direct and indirect tax matters, including corporate tax, VAT, employment tax, and complex cross-border issues.
- Liaising with clients, tax advisors, counsel, and HMRC to achieve timely and effective outcomes.
- Supporting senior team members on large-scale, high-value cases while handling your own caseload with appropriate supervision.
- Assisting with business development initiatives, including thought leadership, client seminars, and preparing pitches.
Key Requirements:
- 2-5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in tax disputes, gained at a leading law firm or in-house.
- Strong knowledge of UK tax law, dispute resolution procedures, and HMRC processes.
- Proven experience handling contentious tax matters, including litigation before tax tribunals or courts.
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to provide strategic, pragmatic advice to clients.
- A team player with a proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- England & Wales qualified (or equivalent international qualifications).
