A look into the role…

We are now recruiting for the role of Business Intelligence Officer, based within our Customer Proposition Department. Reporting directly to our Commercial Development Manager, the Business Intelligence Officer plays a key role in supporting investment decision-making and continuous improvement across Henderson Group's retail estate. Through the analysis of project performance, production of management information and delivery of post-investment reviews, the role provides insight that helps improve forecasting accuracy, strengthen governance and inform future capital investment decisions. The Business Intelligence Officer works closely with colleagues across Retail, Property, Finance and Commercial Development, translating complex data into clear and actionable insights for a range of stakeholders.

This role will be very well suited to a candidate with strong analytical capability, attention to detail and the ability to communicate findings clearly to support informed business decision-making.

The Business Intelligence Officer will:

  • Coordinate and deliver post-investment reviews at agreed milestones, comparing actual performance against approved business cases, identifying drivers of variance and ensuring learnings are incorporated into future assessments.
  • Produce board reports, management information, executive summaries and performance reporting within agreed timescales, presenting data in a clear and meaningful format.
  • Maintain and develop a database of commercial impacts, project performance and store benchmarks to support forecasting, business case development and investment evaluation.
  • Analyse project performance, KPIs and commercial outcomes to identify trends, opportunities and risks across different project types, store formats and investment categories.
  • Provide analytical and reporting support to Commercial Development colleagues to facilitate timely and robust investment assessments.
  • Support governance processes through the provision of accurate reporting, post-investment analysis and performance benchmarking.
  • Support the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of analytical tools, systems and databases that improve reporting efficiency, forecasting accuracy and decision-making.

Skills for Success

Joining us as Business Intelligence Officer, the minimum criteria you’ll need is:

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths & English (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a commercial, finance, data analysis, business intelligence or retail environment.
  • Strong analytical experience, providing data-led insight to support commercial decision-making.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data manipulation, analysis and reporting.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to input data, analyse and track to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex data and performance trends.

The skills/attributes you’ll need include:

  • A thorough and structured approach, seeing tasks through from inception to completion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail, balanced with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously, providing clear and timely updates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

It is desirable if you have:

  • 3rd level qualification in Retail, Finance, Business or management.
  • Relevant experience within a supermarket or convenience food business, either in a wholesale or retail environment.
  • Experience of statistical analysis.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness, with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • A good understanding of the Northern Ireland supermarket and convenience retail market.
  • A working knowledge of capital appraisal of retail investments.
  • Previous experience of reading and interpreting P&L’s.

This is a full-time position working 36.5 hours per week. Working hours will be 8:45am-4:45pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am-3:45pm Friday. Hybrid and flexible working arrangement available.
