Butchery Manager – Competitive salary & great benefits. Full-time position at 42.5 hours per week, working within Monday to Sunday, 6:00am to 5:00pm, with a degree of flexibility required.

A look into the role: Our hard-working and friendly team make it all happen by delivering first class customer service at the butchery counter and maintaining great hygiene standards by keeping the prep and service areas clean. The Butchery Manager will be responsible for all aspects of managing the butchery department to achieve targets, including sales and margin, cost, stock, wastage, and customer service whilst leading and engaging a successful team and contributing to the store being a valued part of the local community.
Role responsibilities:
- To be a dedicated SPAR and EUROSPAR brand ambassador, leading from the front, and accountable for the day-to-day running, management and performance of the butchery department.
- Take real pride in your department, running it like its your own.
- Responsible for the butchery department meeting agreed targets and ensuring the department operates within these targets.
- To know the market your butchery department operates within and identify initiatives that will improve department performance and KPIs. Consult with Area Manager, then implement agreed initiatives.
- Responsible for ensuring the premises, fixtures, fittings and stock is safely and securely maintained in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring the butchery department operates in line with legislation and all Company policies and procedures; cash management, security, stock, wastage, customer service, health and safety, food safety.
- To trade to the agreed butchery department opening hours by recruiting, training, organising and controlling the appropriate level and calibre of employees.
- Responsible for effectively managing all aspects of people leadership within your department throughout the employee lifecycle; recruitment, onboarding, training, development, performance management, engagement, discipline, recognition, reward, attendance, retention, offboarding.
- Responsible for establishing and developing a positive employee culture within the store, where team members feel valued, engaged, and enjoy work.
- Lead from the front by role modelling and setting a positive example in everything that you do and expect of your team.
- Role model the ways of working, positively representing and promoting our Company Values of Ambition, Customer First, Teamwork, and Integrity. Recognise team members who work in line with these values.
- Responsible for department and team compliance with all Company and legislative regulations, to include food safety, cash management, trading standards, health and safety, security, due diligence.
- Responsible for building and developing a culture of continuous improvement within your department.
- Lead by example by identifying opportunities and encouraging team involvement in developing and implementing the ideas.
- Support the Store Manager in community engagement for your store and department, actively participating in volunteering and fundraising events, and encouraging the butchery department team to get involved.
What we're looking for:
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a similar Butchery role.
- Previous experience of leading or supervising others.
- Successful track record of managing targets and controllable costs.
- Target driven with experience of working towards KPIs and continuous improvement.
- Commercial awareness.
- Total customer focus, passionate about local butchery along with the ability to motivate and inspire others to deliver the best possible service.
- A great leader with a natural flair for leading and developing a high performing team.
- Brilliant time management, delegation and problem-solving skills.
- High standards of personal presentation and hygiene.
- A great team player, able to work well with colleagues.
- Able to demonstrate experience of effectively managing targets and controlling costs.
- Food safety training, level 2 equivalent.
- Age 18 years or above (due to store legislative requirements).
- The role requires a flexible approach to hours of work in line with delivering the very best service experience for our customers.
Desirable Criteria:
- Vocational butchery training such as Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds.
