The focus of this role is opening doors, not managing accounts. At Hempel, we are strengthening our UK Energy business where the opportunity is real and underdeveloped. We are looking for a Business Development Manager to focus purely on new and non-buying accounts, with Oil and Gas as the must-win priority and major projects across Energy and Infrastructure firmly in scope. This is a true business development role. You create opportunity. You win early specification and project engagement. We scale it through our Key Account Managers. If you are motivated by white space, autonomy, and selling solutions that genuinely solve Energy’s biggest problems, this role will suit you!

Most Energy BD roles talk about growth; this one exists because the growth is tangible. Oil and Gas has historically had less focus and is now a strategic priority. At the same time, offshore energy, renewables and green hydrogen are accelerating. This role sits at the front end of that opportunity, shaping how Hempel is specified, trusted and chosen across major projects. You will run your patch with autonomy, backed by a respected global brand, deep technical capability, and market-leading products. This is an outward-facing, hunter-led role focused on opportunity creation and early wins.

Responsibilities

  • Open new and non-buying Energy accounts across the UK
  • Build senior relationships with NOCs, EPCs, contractors, engineers, specifiers and applicators
  • Win specification and early project engagement within major Oil and Gas and Energy projects
  • Create a strong, visible pipeline and improve win rates through early customer influence
  • Lead trials, demonstrations and customer training to support conversion
  • Sell high impact, market-leading coatings solutions
  • Hand over successfully converted business to Key Account Managers and stay closely aligned
  • Work with technical teams and Centres of Excellence to support approvals and positioning
  • Track all opportunities clearly through CRM

Who This Role Is For

This role suits commercially driven people who enjoy building something from the ground up. You might come from business development, sales, or a technical background within Energy, infrastructure, coatings or adjacent industries. Travel is required for customer and project coverage throughout the UK, with flexibility on location.

You are likely to bring:

  • Strong Oil and Gas or Energy sector exposure
  • Confidence influencing senior technical and commercial stakeholders
  • A hunter mentality with strong commercial instincts
  • Comfort working independently with high levels of ownership
  • Clear communication and relationship building skills
  • Coatings experience is an advantage, not a requirement.
  • Certifications such as NACE or FROSIO are beneficial, but attitude, curiosity and impact matter more.

What You Get In Return

  • Competitive base salary plus bonus
  • Company car and business travel support
  • Flexible working and inclusive parental leave policies
  • Autonomy, trust, and support from a global organisation
  • Access to market leading Energy and Infrastructure solutions that outperform commodity offerings

Ready to build something meaningful? If this role excites you, even if you do not meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply. Diverse perspectives make us stronger, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.
