Hemiko is recruiting for a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor reporting to the Health and Safety Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in delivering a full Health and Safety service, supporting all parts of the business and providing advice in a business-focused, consistent and timely way.
Hemiko is a fast-growing business investing in and delivering over £1bn of low-carbon heat network projects in the coming years. We fund, design, build, operate, and maintain district energy networks and building energy systems for communities, towns, and cities, working in partnership with local authorities, developers, house builders, and property owners. This is a temporary role until the end of June 2027. Hemiko is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to assist in delivering a full Health and Safety service, supporting all parts of the business and providing advice in a business-focused, consistent and timely way.
Specifically, the successful candidate will provide advice and support to all Hemiko colleagues by ensuring health and safety practices are identified and implemented in line with our company values, and in accordance with our Health and Safety Policy, acting on identified risks as and when required, helping to ensure a safe working environment for our people and those affected by our actions including visitors, residents and contractors, across operations, construction sites and offices.
The successful candidate will support the Health and Safety Manager in the management, monitoring, inspection and continual development of the organisation's Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environmental programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure that Health and Safety requirements are set and met throughout the company.
- To advise, support and train managers in the Management of Health and Safety.
- Advise colleagues of current legislation and good practice to enable them to carry out their duties and exercise their responsibilities.
- To carry out regular Health and Safety Audits and Inspections across the regions to ensure that policies are being adhered to and that the company is compliant with legislation.
- To assist in the preparation of Health and Safety operational plans including review of Policy, statement and Health and Safety Procedures.
- To assist the Health and Safety Manager, and other team members in continuously improving the Health and Safety Management system and service to our colleagues.
- To support Health and Safety Manager in reviewing all documents within Health and Safety remit.
- Support the Health and Safety Manager in CHAS and ISO45001 - preparing for assessment ensuring compliance targets and external accreditations are met and maintained.
- Support departments in the development and review of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Responsibility for reviewing risk and COSHH assessments with line managers.
- Review accident and near miss reporting including RIDDORs and investigations.
- Review and update COSHH database with the Health and Safety Manager.
- To meet with clients where necessary.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum three years in a similar role, preferably in the Energy Sector and District Heating.
- Member of IOSH and Tech IOSH level.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- CSCS or EUSR.
- First Aid at Work.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of Process Safety.
- A strong sense of ownership with good work ethic.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Full driving licence.
- Comprehensive understanding of all Microsoft Office applications.

- Remuneration: Base £45,000 (depending on experience).
