Helvar Ltd is looking for an experienced and driven Commissioning Manager to lead and develop our local commissioning function and team. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the consistent, high-quality delivery of Helvar solutions across the United Kingdom, while driving customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and service business growth. A background in sales or a business development mindset is an advantage; however, this is a technical role. The role combines operational leadership with hands-on project involvement and service business development.
The Commissioning Manager provides line management for Project Managers and commissioning engineers, leads commissioning operations, and supports lifecycle customer solutions and service growth initiatives. The position includes local project management and coordination responsibilities and requires close cooperation with customers and local sales managers to ensure optimal service delivery and adherence to agreed project schedules. When required, the Commissioning Manager also participates directly in commissioning and project delivery to support operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the local commissioning team, ensuring timely, efficient, and high-quality delivery of commissioning activities.
- Provide line management, coaching, and operational guidance to Project Managers and commissioning engineers.
- Ensure the team follows commissioning processes, tools, and documentation in alignment with company standards and best practices.
- Identify competence gaps and establish upskilling, certification, and development plans.
- Drive operational efficiency, quality, and consistency through OKRs, KPIs, audits, and quality assurance processes.
- Implement and maintain health, safety, and compliance standards in all commissioning activities in the United Kingdom.
- Coordinate resource planning and allocation through the team to support project timelines and service delivery needs.
- Manage local budgets and contribute to cost control and optimisation initiatives.
- Lead recruitment activities including interviews, onboarding, and integration of new team members.
- Conduct performance and salary reviews and support continuous professional development.
- Define clear performance targets and lead the evolution of working methods in alignment with company strategy.
Project Management and Commissioning Execution
- Support and coordinate project management and commissioning activities across projects in the United Kingdom.
- Maintain awareness of past, ongoing, and upcoming projects to ensure successful execution and resource planning.
- Participate in project meetings with customers and sales managers, both remotely and on-site.
- Organise and coordinate commissioning engineers according to project requirements.
- Monitor project status, schedules, and commissioning quality to ensure delivery performance and customer satisfaction.
- Personally participate in commissioning and project management activities in selected projects and during Project Manager absences.
- Review larger fixed-price commissioning quotations together with sales managers to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
- Ensure commissioning invoicing in large projects is executed according to agreed payment schedules and commercial terms.
- Collaborate closely with sales and support teams to ensure commissioning outcomes meet customer and project requirements.
Sales and Service Business Development (HelvarCare Focus)
- Lead commissioning operations with a strong focus on service business growth, lifecycle customer support, and profitable delivery.
- Drive development and sales of maintenance and service contracts (HelvarCare) by identifying opportunities within installed base and ongoing projects.
- Support service sales by providing technical and operational expertise during customer discussions, estimations, and solution development.
- Build and maintain long-term customer relationships to identify opportunities for upgrades, audits, optimisation projects, and additional services.
- Ensure Location Base (Salesforce) is maintained and actively utilised to support service sales, installed base management, and customer follow-up.
- Participate in customer and sales meetings to support service development and strengthen long-term partnerships.
- Develop, promote, and deliver audits of installed lighting control solutions (Helvar and third-party systems) as part of lifecycle service offering.
- Support pre-sales teams by providing commissioning expertise during estimation, quotation, and planning phases.
