Description

Extraordinary Care. Extraordinary Culture. Extraordinary Careers.

At Helping Hands, kindness is our foundation. From our first kitchen-table beginnings to the thousands-strong team we are today, we're united by one belief: everyone deserves to live well in the place they call home. If you're passionate about using your financial skills to support a purpose-driven organisation and want a role where your work genuinely helps families receive exceptional care, there's a place for you here.

As part of our growing People function, we're looking for a highly capable Employee Relations (ER) Manager to lead a market-leading ER service that protects our culture, strengthens capability and supports the business through effective, commercially minded ER expertise. You'll bring strong technical knowledge, confidence in high-risk case management and the ability to influence senior leaders, while shaping the future of ER within a fast-paced, people-first organisation.

We're open to hiring someone on either a 6-month fixed-term contract or a permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the ER strategy and deliver a high-quality, business-partnering service.
  • Manage complex and high-risk ER cases, providing expert advice to senior leaders.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing ER team.
  • Strengthen ER capability across line managers and leaders.
  • Maintain robust ER policies, processes and systems, using data to drive improvements.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with employment legislation and manage organisational responses to change.
  • Develop strong internal and external relationships, including ACAS, legal advisers and unions.
  • Oversee ER KPIs, reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Manage ER budgets, legal spend and settlement agreements.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Experienced, commercially minded ER leader from a fast-paced, high-volume, multi-site environment.
  • Strong technical ER expertise including change, TUPE, tribunals, ACAS conciliation, settlement agreements and union engagement.
  • Proven ability to influence, challenge and coach senior leaders.
  • Skilled people leader with experience building high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organised, proactive and delivery-focused.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a customer-first approach.
  • Tech-savvy, data-driven and comfortable working with HR systems.
  • High levels of integrity, resilience and sound judgement.

Desirable

  • Change management experience.
  • Exposure to HR systems that support ER case tracking.
  • Experience working in regulated environments.
  • Multi-sector experience.

Benefits

  • Be part of a growing national organisation with real purpose.
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression
  • 25 days' annual leave (rising to 26 after two years).
  • Blue Light Card discounts.
  • Employee assistance programme.
  • A workplace that celebrates diversity and champions inclusion - everyone is welcome.
